Okay – so here’s a post I thought I would NEVER do. Ball-gowns, prom dresses?

Now, I’m certainly not your glitz and glam, floor length, diamanté, demure kinda gal. I wore a basic, clean cut, emerald dress from Topshop Unique to my own prom.  The thought of wearing something sparkly and encrusted with diamonds has always cringed me out and screamed ‘tacky’. However, I was forced to try something different last week.

I know what you’re thinking… why are we talking about proms in SEPTEMBER? Well, it was the last episode of my TV series and there was a prom being held at the college. As soon as I was told I had to get a prom dress I thought ‘Great, now’s the time to step out of my comfort zone and try something new!’. I mean – when would I ever get the chance to have a prom again? I wanted to have fun with it and see what it was like to be one of those girls who go dress shopping for the most outrageous dress and for it to be like a scene from ‘Say yes to the dress’.  And as it was going to be on TV – you HAVE to go all out in order for it to be noticed.

Here’s 3 dresses I found on my search to become Prom Queen. Maybe you’re reading this just for fun or even to draw inspiration for your prom next year – it’s never too early to search for the perfect dress.Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

This dress is from Cinderella’s Prom in my hometown of Brighton. This is PURE prom in my opinion but I loved the Chloe vibes it had going on.  Had a real ethereal feel to it and fitted like a glove.

The next dress is actually from respected Indian designer Rocky Star. Obviously on the more expensive side – Beyonce, and the Pussycat Dolls to name a few has worn Rocky Star pieces. I can’t imagine many people have worn these dresses to proms – more like red carpets.

I adore the deep split to this dress and encrusted waistline. Definitely a more high fashion option.

Last up we have iconic prom label – Jovani purchased from Dress 2 Party. With a hefty price tag, prom go-ers still fail to resist these dresses and I can see why. To add to this glamorous look I had the help of amazing make up artist Laura Louise and hair stylist Steph from ZXAAR HAIR. Click their names to be directed to their sites. You may want to book them for your prom next year 😉

So, I’m going to be completely honest – this blog would be boring if I pretended everything was perfect all the time BUT I was a LITTLE disappointed at some of the outfit decisions this year at the Golden Globes. These gorgeous ladies just didn’t seem flaunt it as much as usual in my opinion – I felt like a lot of the celebs played it super safe… maybe they’re still feeling a little lazy from Christmas. However – there were some pleasant decisions that gave me dress envy! By the way – there will be NO worst dressed list – I may be stylishly honest but I DO NOT pit women against other women. ‘Worst dressed lists’ need to be abolished from every magazine and online publication.

These are my top 3!

Coincidentally, my favourite outfits this year are ALL in the pink palette! Maybe I’m feeling some kinda girly way but I just feel like these ladies actually made a real statement and took some risks.goldenglobestop3Kate Hudson, Cate Blanchett, Kate Bosworth

Kate Hudson got it all out and played a tough game in a VERY nude Michael Kor’s number – this colour is SO hard to pull off as it has the capability of completely drowning you out – especially as a white girl. And she manages to pull it off without having a major orange spray tan. People tend to over-compensate on the tan when wearing nude numbers like this in order to stand out. Cate Blanchett blew me away in this 1920’s style, PINK PINK PINK (the best pink i’ve ever seen actually) Givenchy Haute Couture frock. This dress is absolutely beautiful, full of detail and looks like it costs a million dollars. Definitely the most couture of the Golden Globes. And Kate Bosworth was another one of my firm favourites in this Dolce&Gabanna floor length gown. It fits her like a glove and compliments her tiny frame. The structure of the dress is incredible along with the jewel finish. I would kill for this dress. She looks absolutely on point – I don’t know how anyone would’t love this dress!

The Neutral Palette Gang!

These ladies didn’t quite make my top 3 but I still appreciated these beautiful looks. I’m a massive fan of Rosie HW and as usual, she slays in this vintage style, Atelier Versace dress. It is truly tasteful. I appreciate her neat hair and makeup choice that lets the dress do the talking. I’m not particularly familiar with Brie Larson but I think her Calvin Klein dress is stunning and extremely flattering – I do however feel like her she should have done an up-do hair wise. A slick ponytail or bun would have given her a bit of edge with such a form-fitting dress. Floor length, glittering gowns have the danger of looking ‘prom day’ without the right hair and makeup. Rooney Mara also impressed me with her fragile, detailed, Alexander Mcqueen frock. I love the vintage-rag doll look that she’s gone for. Her vampy hair and makeup compliment the dress like a treat.

Admittedly, I have a little crush on Lily James. Even though she did beat me to the role of Cinderella – But we’ll forgive her as she seems like a really cool girl. I think this white Marchesa gown looks perfect on her – still keeping to her fairytale theme but she looks sexy at the same time with the sheerness of the gown and her smokey makeup. Good choice girl!

The Red Ladies

Jennifer Lawrence, Amber Heard, Zendaya ColemangoldenglobesredThese aren’t my favourite dresses but these ladies deserve a mention! Jennifer Lawrence who i’m a huge fan off played it safe in this cut-out Dior dress. I appreciate the minimal/modern look of the dress but what brought it to life was the large chain necklace! Always trust an accessory! Amber Heard also looked stunning as usual in this pretty Gucci Couture frock. She almost looked royal! I felt like the dress was actually more of a copper colour than red – very unusual. Zendaya who always kills it for me did resemble the flamenco dancer emoji a tiny bit but she still slayed!! The colour looked beautiful against her complexion and the deep V neck added that sexy touch for her. She looked incredible.

UNTIL NEXT YEAR!!

With the brand new Cinderella hitting the big screen and everyone going all Frozen style crazy over – I thought i’d theme this next post around the classic fairytale and this Oh My Love London princess tutu is right on subject. As most of you probably know – I’m not the girliest girl going.. I do tend to stick to my ripped skinnys but I am versatile when it comes to fashion and I had to try this skirt. The subtle grey shade put a completely different spin on the average tutu and made it that little bit more acceptable to be worn by a 19 year old girl on the casual. Basically – I am besotted with this garment (check me talking all Cinderella’ey’) – it is elegant, flattering and fresh. Don’t be afraid to wear either girls, I know the prospect of wearing a tutu sounds bizarre to some but it’s great to wear something out of the box sometimes and you can really edge this skirt up with chunky silver jewellery, boots and a leather jacket if you’re a bit more rock. You can purchase at the bottom of this post.
